Hi!
Hi girls! The International Women’s Day is an important day for women! Not only because guys give us a present, but also because it’s a day full of history!

March 8th, 1908, New York City: women working inside a cotton textile factory went on strike to demand 'Equal pay for equal work, eight hour work day and rest at home.' These women were shut inside the factory to stop them from uniting with one another and protesting. The company's bosses lit the factory on fire and 140 women lost their lives!

In 1910 an international conference of women resolved that each year a day should be set aside to press for women's demands.

At the same time in England, women were meeting and marching to demand the right to vote. The Suffragettes adopted the colours of Green, White and Violet to stand for their slogan "Give Women the Vote". Since then these colours have been used to symbolise the struggle for women to obtain equal rights.

Women won the vote:

in 1917 in the Soviet Union,

1918 in Austria,

1919 in Germany,

1920 in the USA,

1928 in the United Kingdom,

1944 in France,

1945 in Italy,

1971 in Switzerland!

In Russia, Italy and other countries it is customary to present women with yellow mimosas because yellow represents, the passage from death to life and it’s the colour of energy and vitality.

This day is a good chance to show our appreciation towards grandmothers, mothers, sisters, friends and teachers and a day to celebrate women's contribution, making the world a better place for everyone!
